If you are applying to internships or your first job, you are probably sending a lot of applications. After the tenth one, it gets hard to remember which companies replied, which CV you sent and when to follow up. That is where a simple tracker helps.
Why tracking matters
- You follow up on time. A short, polite follow-up a week after applying can put you back on a recruiter’s radar.
- You prepare better. Before an interview you can check exactly which role and which CV you sent.
- You learn what works. After a few weeks you can see which kinds of roles reply to you most.
What to track for every application
- Company and role
- Date applied and where (LinkedIn, company site, career fair)
- Which version of your CV you used
- Contact person, if any
- Current stage: Applied, interview rounds, Offer or Rejected
- Next action and its date
Keep it simple
You do not need special software. A spreadsheet with clear columns and a stage for each step is enough. Update it every time you apply or hear back, and check it once a week.
